Win tickets to the Festival of Sport at Holkham

09:30 12 March 2022

It’s one of the hottest new festivals in the area, and now EDP is offering readers the chance to win a family ticket including camping for the Festival of Sport.

Most people might think festivals are mostly about music and food, but a newcomer to Norfolk’s summer events calendar, Festival of Sport, offers these and more.

A weekend celebration of physical activity, wellness and sports of all kinds, the Festival of Sport made its successful debut at beautiful Holkham Park last August.

And this year’s event, from Friday August 12th to Monday August 15th, is shaping up to be even bigger and better, with an extra night for families to unwind for the fun Sunday night wrap-up party.

The festival aims to give families the chance to try out a whole range of new sports, as well as giving youngsters valuable training tips in more familiar sports thanks to its impressive line-up of international stars.

Rugby World Cup winner Will Greenwood co-founded Festival of Sport with fellow international Austin Healey.

Sports legends confirmed so far include former England and Norwich City striker Dean Ashton, Olympic gold medal-winning hockey players Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh, former England cricketer Ryan Sidebottom, British trampolinist Amanda Parker, former England netballer Tamsin Greenway and Paralympic rowers Victoria and Tom Agar.

Recent additions to the lineup will see netballers Karen Atkinson and Karen Greig, rower Alan Campbell and freestyle footballer Charlotte Lade-Rogers join other sports stars over the weekend.

The basic sports in which children can get involved are rugby, hockey, cricket, football, gymnastics, netball and athletics.

Alongside this, a host of additional sessions allow youngsters to learn the basics of trampolining, rowing, boxing, mixed martial arts, archery, dodgeball, kayaking and more again, including the laser run, which is new for 2022 and run by the Pentathlon. Go.

This year will also see a larger golf area where two-time European Tour winner Graeme Storm will help budding golfers hone their driving, putting and chipping skills.

With coaching and activities primarily aimed at children aged 5-17, there are plenty of additional activities to keep preschoolers and adults occupied and entertained.

Fun matches between adults and legends proved very popular last year, while those who prefer to take things a little more relaxed can try a yoga session, sit down and enjoy an expert chat or even getting a massage.

There will be on-site camping for families to bring their own tents or motorhomes, or there is a range of glamping options to upgrade to, such as a pre-erected tent or bell yurt, or even a trailer Classy Airstream. For those who prefer solid walls, Holkham is of course surrounded by holiday homes, including a number on the Holkham estate itself.
