Photos: Folk Fest Saturday – RVAHub

The 17th Richmond Folk Festival starts tomorrow, Friday October 8, and takes place over three days filled with more music, food and fun than you can imagine.

With five stages and nearly 70 performances over three days, many people plan to spend more than a day at the festival. Add over 30 food vendors, a craft market, a Virginia Folklife demo area, and one of Richmond’s finest festival venues, and we think you’ll want to go there for several days to see as much as possible.

Festival hours

  • Friday October 8, 6.30 p.m.-10 p.m.
  • Saturday October 9 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • Sunday October 10, 1 p.m.-6 p.m.

Learn about all the fantastic artists that will happen. With styles ranging from jazz and gospel, Irish, rockabilly, salsa and more, there is something for everyone to love or discover.

Maps and routes
The Richmond Folk Festival takes place on the historic riverside of downtown Richmond, 2nd through 7th St and from Byrd Street to the river – including Brown’s Island, the American Civil War Center in Tredegar, des portions of Federal Reserve parking lots and Tredegar Street.

FREE! Enjoy all performances on all 5 stages for free. Food, drink and merchandise are available for sale.

This is a BIG festival with a substantial budget which is largely supported by generous sponsors. However, the festival needs your help to stay FREE and sustainable! There is a suggested donation of $ 10 per person per day which can be made online HERE, or by finding a volunteer wearing a bright orange shirt carrying a bright orange bucket to the festival and doing a “Drop in the Bucket!” Or, you can send a FOLK SMS to 44321 to donate from your mobile phone. Thanks for your help in keeping the festival FREE!

Purchase of beer and festival merchandise
There are NO CASH SALE on site for drinks or festival merchandise. Debit and credit cards are accepted.

Drinks are also available for order online – either before you leave home or once you are on the festival grounds. Pre-ordering through the Noble app allows drinks to be ready when you arrive! Be sure to download the Noble app and create an account / password in preparation for purchasing drinks – and don’t forget to remember your password! But you can also just buy in person with a debit or credit card.

Please don’t bring
Dogs (except service animals), coolers / large backpacks, alcohol, bottles or glasses of any kind, drugs, weapons, laser pointers, bicycles on site (they can be parked outside the property festival), skateboards, inline skates or flying objects (drones, kites, frisbees, soccer balls).

Reminder of the CarMax family space
Due to the very interactive nature of the activities planned for the CarMax Family Space, we will not be organizing a family space this year. Due to the lack of an approved Covid 19 vaccine for children under 12, we believe it is best to cancel Family Zone activities for the safety of our smaller customers. The Children’s Museum will be back to host the popular CarMax Family Area in 2022!
