Last chance to register for the Hospiscare twilight walk

The countdown is on for the fifteenth anniversary of a popular charity event.

Twilight with a Twist, the iconic pink walk event of local charity Hospiscare, takes place on Saturday July 10. There are only a few days left to register for the brightest event of the year with registrations closing at midnight on Sunday July 4th.

While the event would normally unfold with hundreds of people gathering in Exmouth to walk along the East Devon coast, this year the event takes place across Devon – with participants walking a route of their choice in a place close to them.

The hospice palliative care charity cares for more than 2,000 patients and their families each year and this care continued throughout the pandemic. Hospiscare faces a deficit of more than £ 1.5million due to the continued impact of Covid-19 on its finances, which means that the support of the local community is even more vital to ensure that the charity can stay by the side of the people it serves. when they need it most.

The theme for this year’s event is “Glitter and Sparkle” and while attendees won’t meet in one place, the charity promises all the excitement of the Twilight experience to this year’s walkers.

Each participant will receive their own Twilight kit in the mail, complete with a limited edition Twilight t-shirt, themed giveaways, and a special 15th anniversary medal as a thank you for shining a spotlight on patients and families across the region facing the challenge. a terminal illness. The event will begin with a welcome and warm-up video and end with a post-party post-walk show with performances by musicians.

Hospiscare Service Manager Julie Wakley will step out in style with her Hospiscare colleagues to enjoy the Twilight Walk.

Julie says: “I have worked at Hospiscare for 18 years and this past year has been like no other.

“We continued to care for patients seven days a week, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but the way we work has changed completely.

“A simple hug or just a touch on the shoulder to support families; these are the things we couldn’t do.

“Our nurses find it difficult because they feel like they can’t do the job they normally do, but we are always there for our patients, laughing and smiling with them behind our masks and making sure. May every day be the best possible day.

“I know that at dusk on July 10 my colleagues and I will walk with big smiles knowing that we are raising funds to ensure that Hospiscare can stay with our patients during these trying times.”

Tori Vince, Event Manager at Hospiscare, added: “We are determined that Twilight Walk will shine in this anniversary year and our walkers will have a great time.

“We are delighted to come together in spirit to raise essential funds for Hospiscare’s specialist end-of-life care. With the association’s income hit hard by the pandemic, we have never needed community support so much.

“We couldn’t be more grateful to all of those who join Twilight Walk and help us continue our essential care during a truly difficult year.

“I would also like to warmly thank Jurassic Fiber for their sponsorship of this event and the continued support of their local hospice.”
