Hogs for the Cause BBQ team raises funds during Saints Tailgate

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The “PigLit” BBQ team lined up outside the Evangeline Lounge in Mid-City on Sunday morning ahead of the Saints game against the Eagles, making some of the best pulled pork tacos you’ve ever had. tasted.

“We put in what we cook and were hoping that since it was an away game people would go out and eat good food,” said team captain Lance Morello.

But the goal is not only to eat, drink and encourage the Saints to victory.

The team first participated in the Hogs for the Cause festival in 2021, which raises funds for research and support for children with brain cancer.

“We first registered in 2020, but the Covid shut down the festival,” Morello said. “It helps families and those who are diagnosed with pediatric brain cancer. So we run pop-up events like this where all the profits go to the team, which goes to Hogs for the Cause.

Although there were limited variations of the festival during the pandemic, Morello says they wanted to keep this message alive for more than one or two weekends a year.

“Plus, because a lot of us are in the medical field and given what the cause supports, it kind of spoke to us even more,” said Morello, a registered nurse anesthetist.

“It’s a bunch of guys who get together, cook and have a good time. Everyone loves food in New Orleans.
