SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The opening of two outdoor skating rinks, a 3-day music festival and a slew of holiday events headline the things to do in San Diego this weekend.
A highly anticipated 7+ stage, 80+ bands, 3-day music and arts festival will take place on the beautiful downtown San Diego waterfront. Plus, paint the town pink and cheer on over 2,000 walkers in Del mar.
Here is an overview of the events not to be missed this weekend:
Rady Children’s Ice Rink
Where: Liberty Station; Cost: $15 to $20
Strap on your ice skates and head to Liberty Station for a night of ice skating at Rady Children’s Outdoor Rink to kick off the holiday season. Proceeds from the skaters will be donated to Rady Children’s Thriving After Cancer program.
Skate by the sea
Where: Hotel Del Coronado; Cost: $35 to $40
(Until January 1) Where else can you slide along the ice right next to the waves? This Windsor Lawn rink at the Hotel del Coronado is built every holiday season. Guests will also enjoy the Frostbite Lounge with roaring fireplaces, holiday-themed libations, and delicious bites.
Wonderfront Music and Arts Festival
Where: Downtown San Diego; Cost: $129 to $600
(Friday to Sunday) The Wonderfront Festival will bring together more than 80 bands on seven stages on the city’s waterfront for a weekend of performances. Various parks and piers along San Diego Bay will serve as venues for dozens of performances and host “festivals within a festival,” featuring after-parties, boat rides, a craft beer village, comedy, interactive art, etc.

Where: Downtown Del Mar Village
(Friday – Sunday) Help paint the city pink by cheering on thousands of San Diegans who will run 60 miles, raising money to help end breast cancer. The walk begins at Del Mar Fairgrounds and ends Sunday at Waterfront Park. It’s a challenge, but it’s not as difficult as breast cancer.
Bikes and beer San Diego
Where: Brewing Company; Cost: $25 to $80
Take a 15, 30, 45 mile bike ride this weekend with Societe Brewing, through Mission Bay and back, during Bikes & Beers. Free prizes, live music and food trucks will continue the fun at the Society at a post-race party.
Ebenezer Scrooge’s Big Christmas Show in San Diego
Where: The Old Globe; Cost: $39 and up
He is back! A Christmas carol will take center stage, including the iconic ghosts of Christmases past, present and future, but with a comedic local twist. The theater curtains will open at 7 p.m.
Encinitas Holiday Street Fair
Where: Coast Highway 101 between D and J; No cost
The holidays are alive in Encinitas, as the Holiday Street Fair takes place to provide locals with handmade crafts, antiques and imports for the gifting season. The fair will also celebrate the season with a children’s area, food and drink and two live entertainment stages.
Where: San Diego Dance Theater; Cost: $15 to $25
This innovative one-day improv event will consist of a two-hour improv workshop, led by the San Diego Dance Theater and the Mockingbird Improv Faculty. During this workshop, teachers will guide students through improvisational games, and audience members can experience two art forms brought to life!
