It’s not every day that you see a horse running down the road – especially a horse all dressed up for the racetrack. But a horse that was scheduled to race at Ellis Park today decided to do just that. After pushing back his pilot, he took off on Hyw 41 where various motorists filmed him taking a break.
WEHT’s Blake Sandlin posted this on Facebook:
Right on the finish: Ellis Park officials told Eyewitness News a racehorse swindled his rider and escaped the track before the first race this afternoon. He traveled along the US-41 before the owner managed to save him at the Evansville Water Department.
Another tri-stater stopped for the horse to slip through traffic and avoid being hit. He reported it on I-69.
Our friends at Eyewitness News reported that he was captured by Posey County Sheriff Tom Latham around Waterworks Road. Maybe he was coming back after his epic run. And although he has a few scratches, he’s doing just fine.
I wonder what was going through his mind. Like, was it all, YES I’m FREE, I’m FREE! Or was the thought, OH CRAP OH CRAP OH CRAP WHAT HAVE I DONE NOW? Of course, we’ll never know, but I’m really glad he’s safe.
