Cornucopia celebration returns to British Columbia in November
Are your taste buds tired of sticking to the essentials during the pandemic? Now they can go wild with Cornucopia from November 4 to 28. The Whistler Food and Drink Festival will open your palate to tasty new ideas. Nine special signing events will take place Thursday through Sunday in November from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The festival kicks off is Taste of the World on Thursday, November 4 ($ 72.52). Taste ten iconic tapas from around the world and pair them with a selection of exotic drinks: wines, beers and liquors.
For a local perspective, choose the British Columbia Regional Tasting on Friday, November 5 ($ 89.02). Winemakers from Tinhorn Creek, Gray Monk, Red Rooster, Black Hills and Sandhill Winery will lead the tastings and show you their favorite wines. Each cellar presents both white wine and red wine. This sit-down tasting has delicious cleansers for the palate, but it’s mostly a drinking event.
On Saturday November 6, Winery Speed ââDating ($ 79.58). This fast-paced event will introduce you to wines from ten different wineries. It’s also primarily a drink event, so eat before you arrive.
The next signature event kicks off Thursday, November 11 with the BC House Party ($ 77.09). Immerse yourself in BC’s delicious food and drink culture with a buffet dinner showcasing the most magnificent dishes BC chefs have to offer, paired with a selection of favorite BC wines. British served at your table.
On Saturday, November 13, attend Cornucopia’s 25th Anniversary Dinner ($ 286.27) featuring cuisine from five top executive chefs from across the Sea to Sky region. Each chef has teamed up with a wine estate of their choice to present an extravagant food and wine pairing.
At the start of the day, there are several Drink Seminars starting Saturday November 6 at 11 a.m. Wine expert DJ Kearny will take you through New Zealand: Getting it right for future generations ($ 64.54). The Kiwi wine industry has been a leader in sustainability for decades. But over the years, they have discovered that protecting people and places also results in top quality wines.
Kearny will guide you through nine premium wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and other tasty varietals.
If you’re a Chardonnay fan, then Chardcore on Saturday, November 6 at 11:15 a.m. ($ 67.45) is the seminar for you!
The Chardonnay grape variety is a blank canvas on which the winegrowers work. It is easily influenced by the terroir and the wine-making choices. It’s no surprise then that chard from across British Columbia expresses such a range of colors, aromas and flavors. Wine presenters Christine Campbell and Jason Stubblefield walk you through ten Okanagan, Similkameen and Lillooet chard.
Take a wine trip to the south of France at GÃ©rard Bertrand’s Game-Changing Wines ($ 64.54) on November 6 at 11:30 am. Despite its long wine heritage, the GÃ©rard Bertrand Group is leading the charge to make better wines. GÃ©rard is committed to biodynamic agriculture, sustainability and innovation in the vineyard until the design of the bottle.
Nicolas Galy of the cellar is organizing this guided tasting of eight wines that shows how GÃ©rard and his team are leading the way that will be followed by avant-garde cellars from around the world.
At 1:30 p.m. on the 6th, check out the Explore BC’s Best: TIME Family of Wines portfolio at 1:45 p.m. ($ 64.54). British Columbia’s TIME family of wines recently expanded to include four labels: TIME, Chronos, Evolve and the McWatters Collection, named after local industry legend Harry McWatters.
McWatters daughter Christa-Lee, Managing Director of the TIME family of wines, will share her insider perspective as she co-hosts a ten-wine guided tasting with Christine Campbell of Girls Go Grape. All the wines presented are handcrafted in small quantities, following the family’s vision of embracing innovation and putting quality above all else.
Also on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. is Argentina: Malbec and Beyond ($ 64.54). Ride the cool climate wave: Australian band Rathbone Wine ($ 64.54) is at 4 p.m. and Single Malt Seduction: Secrets of the Cask ($ 76.19) is at 4:15 p.m.
