Chinatown festivals, Artwalks, House of the Dragons and more: what to do this weekend

Chinatown is the place to be this weekend between First Fridays on Chung King Road and the Steep Summer Market this Saturday. Fill up on local food, art and music on both evenings. Not to mention the Jerk Music and Food Festival this Saturday and Sunday, and Taste of Ecuador on Sunday afternoon, to scratch that itch for cultural exchange and food.

Likewise, First Friday events will be held for kids at Kidspace’s Children’s Museum with free admission and Bixby Knoll’s First Friday Art Walk in Long Beach. And if food and music festivals aren’t your preface, Pete Holmes and Spanish Aquí can scratch your comedy craving this weekend, and for game of thrones fans, you can head to the Natural History Museum for a new house of dragons HBO show.

Half price sandwiches at Fat Sal’s Venice: The sandwich shop will serve sammies at half price for the inauguration of its new store in Venice.

Kidspace Free First Fridays: Kidspace Children’s Museum will be free for families this Friday.

Alamo Print Shop Screens The thing: John Carpenter’s classic will screen three times at the Downtown LA Theater.

Adams Family 2 at Dockweiler beach: The new animated adaptation of everyone’s favorite spooky family will play at the Dockweiler Youth Center.

Inauguration of Hi-Ho Liquor: From 6-9pm, Hi-Ho Liquor will host a grand opening party for its Costa Mesa location with food from local vendors, music and of course drinks.

Kamasi Washington at the Ford: The saxophonist will play in his hometown this Friday evening.

Blind Third Eye at YouTube Theater: The rockers of ‘Jumper’ and ‘Semi-Charmed Life’ will play in Inglewood.

Cam at the Regent: The pop-country singer will perform Downtown.

Ice Cream Social Dancing Party: To celebrate the new A league apart series, Amazon will host a free dance party and ice cream social at Sorry Not Sorry. The event is for people 21 and older and will take place entirely outdoors.

Aquí Spanish Comedy Show at Paramount: The Latin improvisation group will host a comedy show featuring Harvey Guillen from What we do in the shadowsdance by Jeffrey Urias and more.


Planet of the Apes at the Norton Simon Museum: As part of their alternate realities program in August, the museum will screen the original Planet of the Apes film.

Steep Summer Market: In Chinatown, Steep will host its annual holiday market. Music, food, crafts, shopping and more.
