The Cannon Valley Fair in Cannon Falls is a rare treat these days. A community fair. There is no other listing of a community fair on the Minnesota Federation of County Fairs website.
After the absence of community fairs or festivals a year ago, crowds have been very large at the celebration of Dam Days in Morristown, Heritage Days in Faribault and now at the Cannon Valley Fair in Cannon Falls.
During a special broadcast from the Cannon Falls Fairgrounds, we learned from the fair’s organizers that the truck and tractor pulled into the grandstand on Thursday were so important they didn’t end until 2 a.m. 30 Friday morning.
Cannon Valley Fair chairman Greg Kurtz said only one person phoned police about the morning activity.
Some food stalls reported running out of food on opening day, without anticipating the crowds.
Before leaving the fairgrounds, it was already quite crowded and the day was not officially due to start until 11:00 a.m.
I left shortly after that because I wanted to get a Brat from the KC booth. The wild rice is my favorite but I tried the Smoked Brat and it was delicious with barbecue sauce on it.
The 4th generation of family members involved with Faribault’s Schroeder Concessions stopped by the 4-H building to join our show. Hunter is studying to be an engineer.
Fair board member Nancy Hovel always does a great job lining up guests for the show and this year’s broadcast was no exception. I’ve included the show’s podcast below so you can check it out.
I took several pictures I hope you will enjoy.

To prepare for a potential incident, always keep your veterinarian’s phone number handy, as well as an after-hours clinic that you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline that you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.
However, even with all of these resources, the best cure for food poisoning is to prevent it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 Common Foods to Avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
