Students at a Bedford school are getting their feet on the ground growing their own vegetables on their new housing estate, as part of their commitment to be more sustainable.
Harrold Primary Academy in Bedfordshire recently joined the Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT) to become more self-reliant by growing and harvesting their own vegetables, to use for school lunches and for learning through fun activities.
The new award has also helped the academy improve its facilities and learning environment, and has proven successful with students who have enjoyed growing seasonal vegetables, such as pumpkins and squash, to partner with recent ones. academy harvest festival celebrations.
Debonair Brown, Director of Harrold Primary Academy, said: “In recent years, allotment gardens have become increasingly popular as a great way to encourage more physical activity and healthy eating, while allowing them to enjoy the benefits of sensory play.

Debonair said: “We are delighted with the hard work our students have put into the allotment.
