The West Hartford Pride Festival and DragFest took place on June 26, 2021 at Blue Back Square.

The courtyard, Isham Road and the sidewalks of Blue Back Square were filled with positive energy and rainbows on Saturday as the West Hartford Pride Festival and DragFest brought music, food and fun for the people of all ages in West Hartford with the theme of ‘Love Wins.
Musical and dance performances, including a drag show, as well as story hour and speeches from community members highlighted an afternoon dedicated to inclusiveness where everyone was invited to be themselves.
More than 30 vendors have set up kiosks along the sidewalks, offering food, drinks and a variety of activities.
“What does it feel like to be in person, to celebrate yourself?” Mayor Shari Cantor said as she launched the city’s first official pride festival. The 2020 event should have been a festival of a similar magnitude, but had to move to a virtual format due to COVID-19.
“We believe in love and we celebrate our diversity. We must celebrate our differences and our diversity, but above all our unity. We are stronger, we are healthier, we are happier because we come together, we support each other and we help each other through this unique and sometimes very difficult life journey, ”said Cantor.
“Today I want us all to come together to celebrate love and support.”
Johanna Schubert, co-chair of the West Hartford Pride Festival and DragFest, said the event – also a collection for the West Hartford Food Pantry – was amazing.
“West Hartford Pride welcomes people of all ages, gender identity, race, sexuality, ability and class,” said organizers in the description of the event, which closed a month-long pride celebration that has started with a flag raising. in Unity Green on June 1.
