We’re two weeks away from the first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which truly kicks off festival season in Southern California.

This year promises to be busy. We have lots of fun stuff to share with Coachella, Stagecoach, Desert Hearts, BeachLife, Cruel World and Just Like Heaven happening over the next two months.

And this week we marked our calendar for even more new festivals on the calendar, but they feature old friends.

On Monday, Goldenvoice announced the Palomino Festival is coming to Pasadena this summer. Wait, Palomino, like the alt-country/Americana scene at Stagecoach? Exactly. If you’ve ever been to Stagecoach’s coolest scene, this festival is for you, with Kacey Musgraves and Willie Nelson headlining, along with Jason Isbell, Orville Peck and more.

Then we discovered the beloved Viva! The Pomona Festival was getting a major upgrade and moving west to Dodger Stadium to become Viva! LA with Daddy Yankee, J Balvin and the one, only, Paquita la del Barrio.

Oh, and that’s in addition to the Do Lab announcing its Coachella 2022 lineup and Wonderfront in San Diego releasing its initial slate of acts.

And if you don’t like festivals, well, there were around 543 concert announcements this week, including one Roxy Music reunion at the Forum, Farewell to Elton John’s Dodger Stadium, Weird Al all over Southern California, Brad Paisley in Temecula and Irvinethe new Kaskade and Deadmau5 Kx5 project at the Colosseum, Twice at Banc of California Stadium and the Intimate show by the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Amoeba.

DoLab is back

The Do Lab is one of the cornerstones of the Coachella experience. See who you can hear playing as you cool off with the water cannons. (Hint: an artist went viral 11 years ago.)

In your honor

The music world has been rocked by the death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins last week. I wrote a little about Hawkins’ musicianship and pure love of rock ‘n’ roll.
